In a move that has ignited both excitement and controversy, Uganda's parliament has greenlit a staggering UGX422.26 billion shillings (approximately USD119.1 million) in supplementary funding for Uganda Airlines' fleet expansion. The government, however, stands firm. Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki defends the funding request, blaming recent operational delays on sudden airport closures in Entebbe, Bujumbura, Juba, and Dar es Salaam. She insists that the airline is overstretched, with its limited fleet handling up to 40% of Entebbe's traffic. Transport Minister Edward Katumba Wamala supports this claim, stating that new aircraft are essential to stabilize operations and meet rising demand.
