Tyler Rogers lands a three-year, $37 million contract with the Blue Jays, including a vesting fourth-year option that could raise the deal to $48 million.
For the Mets, this marks another reliever signing off the board as they continue to search for bullpen reinforcements. Not long after Edwin Díaz joined the Dodgers and Robert Suárez inked a deal with the Braves, Rogers—formerly with the Mets and a frequent target of trade chatter—agreed to terms with Toronto.
In 28 appearances last season, the submariner posted a 2.30 ERA. As noted earlier this week in our rumor roundup, the Mets didn’t always deploy him in the most advantageous situations. He tends to induce more contact, which, when paired with higher contact rates, can lead to more runs scoring against him when he faces hitters with runners on base.
Even after this move, the relief market remains crowded. While several notable bullpen arms have already found new homes—and often with hefty price tags—the Mets have still been active. They added Devin Williams late last week and brought veteran Carl Edwards Jr. in on a minor-league deal.
With Rogers off the board, the Mets’ deadline bullpen trio—Rogers, Gregory Soto, and Ryan Helsley—has now signed elsewhere. Cedric Mullins, their lone offensive upgrade in July, also moved to the Rays. While many fans favored a Rogers return, it increasingly feels like the team’s preferred bullpen path from 2024 has largely dissipated.
