Mining the News: June 3, 2026

**American League

**

  • Angels: Vaughn Grissom is starting at first base and hitting a grand slam with six RBIs in a 10-6 win. He's expected to get the bulk of the playing time there in Schanuel's absence, with Oswald Peraza and Donovan Walton as options. Manager Kurt Suzuki sees Grissom as a versatile infield player, capable of playing first and second base, and with eight games at third base, he could be a valuable bench bat in deeper leagues.

  • Top Prospect Christian Moore: Playing games at third base and the outfield in AAA for an improved chance to be promoted. Moore has split his time between second and third base this season and is now getting a look at left field, with the goal of continuing to get him reps out there.

  • Cal Raleigh: Injury kept him from swinging from both sides of the plate, and he's struggling with a .161/.243/.317 average. Manager Kurt Suzuki has zero expectations from him once he returns.

  • Brendan Donovan: Will play some outfield when he returns, but top prospect Colt Emerson has slotted into the everyday starter role at third base. Donovan will need everyday reps to be a usable fantasy option.

**Orioles

  • Brandon Young: Throws a new splitter with a larger gap in velocity between the splitter and his four-seam fastball. The pitch didn't miss many bats with an 11% Whiff%, and he's trying to improve his results.

**Twins

  • Brooks Lee: Moving to third base so Kaelen Culpepper can eventually take over at shortstop. Lee's move makes room for Culpepper at shortstop, but it raises questions about Royce Lewis's future.

**National League

  • Braves: Michael Harris II adjusted his stance to increase his bat speed, opening his stance significantly and moving up in the box. This has allowed him to see the ball better, make contact farther in front of the plate, and drive balls with more authority.

  • Dodgers: Justin Wrobleski is adding velocity, with his fastball averaging 94.9 mph. He struck out nine in seven brilliant innings, allowing his only hit with two outs in the sixth inning. Since the velocity jump, he's improved his K-BB% and xFIP.

  • Giants: Landen Roupp pitched through a bad back, giving up a career-high eight runs over four innings. Manager Tony Vitello said Roupp's back locked up on him, but he didn't learn about the issue until after the game.

  • Mets: Jorge Polanco's injuries can't get any worse, but he may have to play through pain for the entire season. Manager Carlos Mendoza said Polanco is not at increased risk of an Achilles tear, but he won't be 100 percent.

  • Padres: Gavin Sheets became a better batter by hitting the ball harder. His barrel rate and hard-hit rate have increased significantly, and his bat speed has jumped to 74.8 mph.

  • Phillies: Top prospect Aidan Miller dealt with back pain last season and is still bothered by it this season. Manager Preston Mattingly said Miller is still doing his rehab program and is not yet at baseball activities.
