FPL Gameweek 14 Tips: Merino, Gyokeres, & Midweek Madness! | Fantasy Premier League Strategy (2025)

Ready for some midweek madness in Fantasy Premier League (FPL)? The game is back with a vengeance for Gameweek 14, and the clock is ticking! With the transfer deadline looming, let's dive into the key players and strategies to dominate your league.

First off, let's talk about the Gunners. After a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Chelsea, Arsenal is gearing up to face Brentford at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

Mikel Merino, a smart differential pick, has been a revelation. At just £5.9m, he's listed as a midfielder but plays in an advanced role, making him a steal! He bagged 9 points in Gameweek 13, outshining Bukayo Saka (£10.1m, 5 points) and Declan Rice (£7.0m, 4 points). The beauty of Merino is that he can score you 5 points for a goal, like a forward, and still earn bonus points if Arsenal keeps a clean sheet.

Returning players like Viktor Gyokeres (£8.8m), who is expected to see his price rise, and Martin Odegaard (£7.8m), are also back in the mix. Declan Rice leads the points for Arsenal this season, with 75 points, followed closely by Jurrien Timber (74 points).

But here's where it gets interesting: Brentford's Igor Thiago (£6.7m) is a serious threat. With 11 Premier League goals, he's the golden FPL asset for Brentford, owned by 22.2% of managers, and has 77 points. Also, consider Dango Ouattara (£6.0m), a budget midfield option, with 56 points.

Triple Captain Time? Many managers have already used their chips, especially with the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in mind. Over a million managers used their Triple Captain chip on Erling Haaland (£14.9m), but he blanked. However, Thiago of Brentford stole the show with a 13-point haul.

And this is the part most people miss... If you still have your Triple Captain chip, you have to use it within the next six Gameweeks. Jean-Philippe Mateta (£8.1m) could be a good option, as Crystal Palace faces Burnley. But be warned: rotation is a real possibility with the busy schedule.

Bryan Mbeumo (£8.6m) is heading to AFCON, so consider Bruno Fernandes (£8.9m) from Manchester United. He's less likely to be rotated and is on penalties.

What about Goalkeepers? Many FPL managers adopt a 'set and forget' approach. Martin Dubravka (£4.0m) of Burnley is the most popular, with 33.9% ownership, 38 points, and 2 clean sheets. David Raya has 58 points. Robin Roefs leads the goalkeeping charts with 60 points. Bart Verbruggen (£4.4m) of Brighton is in great form, with 26 points in the last four Gameweeks.

Remember the deadline is this Tuesday night at 6pm UK time!
