Emyooga Program: Empowering Mpigi's Youth and Communities | Success Stories (2026)

A Life-Changing Initiative: Unlocking Potential in Mpigi District

In the heart of Mpigi, a remarkable transformation is taking place, and it's all thanks to the government's Emyooga program. This initiative has not only provided a financial lifeline but has also empowered youth and communities to thrive. But here's where it gets controversial: some argue that the impact could be even greater with increased funding.

President Museveni's Emyooga program has been a game-changer for Mpigi District. Beneficiaries are singing its praises, claiming it has lifted them out of financial struggles and transformed their lives. A stroll through Mpigi Town reveals a bustling hub of small businesses, from food stalls to metal workshops, many of which owe their existence to Emyooga.

One success story is the Mawokota North Welders SACCO. This group credits Emyooga with providing economic guidance, fostering unity, and empowering youth. With initial funding of Shs30 million, they offered loans to fellow youth, gradually expanding their reach. Umaru Kibira, the SACCO's chairperson, explains how they used subsequent funding to train young people in metal fabrication, resulting in high-quality products that meet modern standards.

Kibira's personal journey is a testament to Emyooga's impact. Previously working in a privately owned workshop with delayed payments, he now runs his own successful business. "Emyooga gave us confidence and the means to start our own ventures," he says. Kibira and his group are grateful but also request increased funding to reach more youth.

Another beneficiary, Mawokota North Taxi Operators Savings and Credit Society Ltd., shares a similar story. Emyooga saved their members from the clutches of high-interest bank loans, preventing the loss of their vehicles, houses, and even land. James Nsubuga Kayizi, the SACCO's chairperson, explains how the program's funding allowed them to purchase a taxi, providing daily income and lending opportunities for members.

Isa Serugo, a taxi driver, adds, "Emyooga has been a true blessing, but we hope for increased funding to make an even bigger impact."

Mpigi District Commercial Officer Ronald Kazibwe confirms that Emyooga has been a key driver of economic transformation. He notes the remarkable progress, especially among unemployed youth, who have become productive and are now supporting their families. Mpigi stands out compared to many other regions, with beneficiaries showcasing improved financial literacy, confidence, and business management skills.

And this is the part most people miss: the potential for even greater impact. With increased funding, the Emyooga program could reach and empower more youth, further transforming lives and communities. It's a controversial point, but one that deserves consideration. What do you think? Should the government increase funding for initiatives like Emyooga? Share your thoughts in the comments!
