Attention, Derby drivers! A major road in your city is about to undergo some necessary improvements, but it's going to cause some headaches for a week. Get ready for potential delays and disruptions!
The Derby Road Resurfacing Project: A Necessary Evil?
From Monday, February 9th, to Friday, February 13th, Derby City Council will be hard at work resurfacing the roundabout on A6 Shardlow Road, where it intersects with Keldholme Lane and Bembridge Drive in Alvaston. This daytime operation aims to enhance the road's condition, but it's bound to cause some traffic snarls.
Here's the catch: the work will be done during the day, which means potential delays for motorists and bus passengers alike. Arrive Buses has already issued a warning, stating that routes 1A, 1B, and 1C may experience delays.
But here's where it gets controversial: some argue that daytime roadworks cause more inconvenience than necessary. Should essential maintenance be done at night to minimize disruption? Or is the potential safety risk too high?
And this is the part most people miss: the alternative routes! Signposted diversions will guide drivers through Shardlow Road, Lindon Drive, Elvaston Lane, and Keldholme Lane (Phase 1), and then Shardlow Road, Coronation Avenue, and Bembridge Drive (Phase 2).
The work is being carried out by Miles Macadam Ltd on behalf of the city council.
So, Derby residents, are you prepared for this week of potential delays? And do you think daytime roadworks are the best approach, or is there a better way? Let's discuss in the comments!
