Get ready, baseball fans! The Altoona Curve are about to undergo a thrilling transformation, stepping onto the field as the Pennsylvania Continentals in 2026 to honor America's 250th birthday! This isn't just a name change; it's a deep dive into history, a tribute to the spirit of the American Revolution.
The Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, playing in Minor League Baseball’s Eastern League, will don this special identity for five exciting games. The design is a visual feast, featuring the outline of Pennsylvania itself, encircled by 13 stars – a nod to the original colonies – and showcasing Independence Hall, the iconic Philadelphia building where both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were born.
But here's where it gets interesting... The name 'Pennsylvania Continentals' is a direct homage to the Pennsylvania Line, a crucial formation within the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Think of it as a baseball team embodying the bravery and resilience of those early American soldiers. The team's mascot, the engineer character, will also get a makeover, looking like he stepped straight out of 1776!
The Curve will transform into the Continentals on the following dates: May 22, June 25, July 10, August 15, and September 12.
What do you think of this historical nod? Do you love the idea of a baseball team paying tribute to such a significant part of American history? Or do you think there are other ways the team could have celebrated this milestone? Share your thoughts in the comments!
